Reason we at Detachment 1088 will be sending a official Delegate to the Convention. We for the first time in our short history feel that we are now part of the Marine Corps League.. We will be talking,and voting with other Delegates from all over the United States.

Me,I will be the new Detachment Commandant and have the Honour of being the Detachments Delegate. I have not been back to the United States since 9/11 2001,and looking forward to the visit.

I book my Airline tickets this week and will fly out on July 31st.straight to Rochester. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new friends and will be bringing good will greetingsfrom the Royal Marines of Great Britian..

We are now in the year 2009, We would like to say Thank You to the Royal Marine Association for inviting us {Marine Corps League,Detachment 1088,London } to march in the Remembrance Day Parade in London with 10000 other Veterans. We all felt very proud to represent all American Veterans of World War 2. Again this year we will again support the Wounded Marine Project.Because we do not have wounded American Marines here,we put are help to the Royal Marines, Detachment 1088 helps wounded Royal Marines or the familys of Royal Marines who have Died.The only way we can do this is to bring some kind of confort to the Marine or to the Family.We have joined forces with a Holiday Company to offer all exspense paid holiday for 7 Days. This has made us alot of good friends here.God Bless This Detachment... In September 2009 we will put on are annual Amateur Ryder Cup Golf Tournament,,this is our third year in playing this Charity Tournament.We bring together European and British and Scotish,Irish, and American players to play 3 Days of Golf. This Tournament is Sponsored by Marine Corps League, London. This is a very good Public Relation Exercise for the Marine Corps League. Well,it is 8 Months to the Convention,In Rochester, Minnesota,My Hotel is booked,Air Tickets will be ready in mid January. I have not been home to America since 9/11,I am looking forward to it very much.I hope to meet and talk to a lot of Delegates at the Convention,to pick up new idea's for my Detachment,See you soon.... 2009 National Convention – Uh-Rah Rochester!

It is with pride and profound gratitude that Thor Detachment, its Auxiliary, and the city of Rochester, Minn. welcome you to our 86th National Marine Corps League Convention. This will be the first time ever that a National Marines’ Convention is going to be held in the State of Minnesota. Dates are July 31 through August 8, 2009.


Thor Detachment and this City are working hard and are incredibly excited to show you the treasures of Southeastern Minnesota. Rochester is where the bluffs of the Mississippi River meet the plains and where many of this Nation’s brightest minds come to advance the medical and technological fields of knowledge, for the betterment of all mankind. You see, Rochester is home to the world renowned Mayo Clinic. And this coming summer, it will be home to the best National Convention ever!

You’ll find Rochester a safe, friendly, convenient, and connected city where the Marine Corps League and Auxiliary will be the priority for that entire week.


For over a century, Rochester has welcomed visitors and medical patients from around the globe who travel to Minnesota for the best in care and hospitality. The Kahler Grand Hotel, our host for the 86th National Convention, is located across the street from the Mayo Clinic and has perfected the business of legendary international service.


With a Convention rate of $89 plus tax, The Kahler Grand will provide you with exceptional accommodations and service; including bellman, valet, doorman, and room service. The Kahler Inn & Suites is the overflow hotel (one block away) and the Rochester Marriott (right across from The Kahler Grand) is available for a rate of $139. All three hotels, plus the Mayo Clinic are connected via “climate controlled” skyways and below ground pedestrian walkways. In fact, much of downtown Rochester is connected through these pedestrian corridors, which are lined with shops, restaurants and rest areas, plus a free Mayo Clinic Education Center, to mention just a few of these underground amenities.

Ask for the Marine Corps League rate, and do make reservations aware of any needs you may have, such as in-room refrigerators and/or wheelchairs. Reservations are available 24/7, however, please try and call them before 10 p.m.; if you will. A daily breakfast buffet and parking are both free for “hotel convention guests” and included in the MCL rate.


We have done our best to anticipate all of your transportation needs. A complimentary Rochester Airport shuttle will run specifically for the Marine Corps League, and I want to encourage you to either sign up for this shuttle service on the Website or call me personally at the phone numbers listed below. Of course, Rochester Airport handicap transportation will also be provided.
If you fly into the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, you can take one of the many daily “Go Rochester Direct” shuttles to the downtown Rochester Hotels for a reasonable fee. They can best be reached by calling before 8 p.m. weekdays and 6 p.m. weekends.


There is ample parking in downtown Rochester for those who will be driving. And, with meetings and activities contained mostly within the hotels, no one should have to walk very far. Of course, motorized scooters will be available for rent, and “push your own” wheelchairs will be available, as well.


The welcome reception on Sunday, August 2 will feature live entertainment. We’re planning a flag raising ceremony at 0800 hours on Monday, August 3 in front of the Mayo Clinic’s Gonda Building, right across from the Kahler Grand, to open the Convention.


We have many leisure activities planned, from trips to the Mall of America, the Treasure Island Resort & Casino and the Spam Museum, to a golf outing at the Soldier’s Field Veterans Memorial Park. And, the Monday through Friday Mayo Clinic tours are at no charge, as of this date. We are still working on The Night of Entertainment and Grande Banquet!

We are a foreign Marine League Detachment who had to learn fast,on how to run a Detachment in a Foreign Country..
We have made great strides here,we have had the Royal Marines Join us as ASSOCIATED members,we have march in uniform Of the Marine Corps League at The Remembrance Day Parade in November in front of the Queen of England.
We are raising monies to build a Wall of Remembrance,For men who died on "Exercise Tiger",during world War 2,the wall will be in built in England...
This year 2008 November will March Again in the Remembrance Day Parade in London,in front of the Queen and whole Royal Family...
We plan bigger and better events for 2009,and the iceing on the Cake is Winning 1st 2nd and 3rd places for are Newsletter Called"The Bull Dog" for the last 3 years.
